CPEX-LAB Ceilometer data become part of E-PROFILE
Since March 2021 the ceilometer data of the Jülich Observatory for Cloud Evolution (JOYCE) are part of the the European E-PROFILE network. E-PROFILE is part of the EUMETNET Composite Observing System (EUCOS) managing the European networks for the monitoring of vertical profiles of wind and aerosols including volcanic ash by ceilometers and radar wind profilers.
Data from the E-Profile network are visualized online and are used for nowcasting as well as data assimilation in weather forecast models. In the future it is planned to integrate also other remote sensing instruments into E-PROFILE. Currently, the University of Cologne and CPEX-LAB are actively contributing to the setup of a microwave radiometer network within E-PROFILE, in close cooperation with complementary activities in ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure).
