University of Cologne instruments set up at Lindenberg observatory

Beginning of May, members of the ‘Exploiting Observations in Meteorology’ group set up microwave radiometers at the Richard Aßmann-Observatorium, Lindenberg, Germany. The instruments are part of a microwave radiometer network set up for the FESSTVaL campaign.

The goal is to improve the process understanding of the planetary boundary layer and cold pools associated with convective events. Besides that, in the campaign, new measurement strategies are tested to improve numerical weather prediction of cold pools, which flow over the surface and be only a few hundred meters deep. Starting now, we hope to gather enough and good data to make the Campaign and related projects successful.
